Cinq ans après la sortie de Demon days, Murdoc Niccals et compagnie reviennent. Le groupe s'est installé sur une île flottante secrète du Pacifique Sud pour enregistrer dans une sorte de QG, Plastic beach, construit à partir des détritus, des débris et des vestiges de l'humanité.
